Remember the dreams of having or being at a beautiful cottage that looks out
onto the beach and ocean? How you could easily hear the sounds of silence in the
peace, quiet, stillness and the ocean water coming onto the shore? Dream no
more--for such a setting and place exists on Spanish Wells in the Bahamas.
From April 8th through the 11th seven dear friends came together to share
therapeutic and stress relief from our everyday lives, extensive beach walks,
excellent swimming in crystal clear waters, pink sands, looking and finding sand
dollars on our daily walks, great food, conversation and a pristine aquamarine
colored ocean directly in front of the "Ocean Dreams Cottage". There was a
feeling amongst us of having left the earth we know and entered into the
heavens!
Much to our surprise, we discovered this lovely and seemingly small cottage.
Which stood proud in comparison to the immensity of the ocean. It is painted in
a light yellow color with white trimming throughout. Upon opening the door we
found an architecturally well planned and built cottage with all the luxuries
one could possibly ask for. There are air conditioning wall units throughout the
cottage as well as ceiling fans, a bedroom and full bathroom downstairs. A
laundry room with washer and dryer and yet another half bathroom also
downstairs. There is a queen size futon that also serves as a comfortable micro
fiber fabric sofa, a lazy boy type chair rocker with ottoman, there is a lovely
kitchen and table that easily accommodates four to six for dining, a microwave,
stove and oven, large refrigerator and loads of kitchen cabinet space. What a
pleasure to do dishes looking out onto the ocean! There was no difficulty in
finding volunteers to wash dishes at each meal!
The entry to the cottage has a lovely porch; we found hammocks under the shade
of the pine trees which resulted in great outdoor napping times. The back of the
cottage also had a lovely porch that looked directly out to the aquamarine color
of the beautiful ocean waters.
A spiral staircase led us to the second level of the cottage. Upstairs our
explorations led us to two large bedrooms and a full bathroom that easily
accommodated four people in one and two or more in the other. The bedroom that
faced the ocean also has a lovely porch and French doors that led out to the
porch. We were awestruck during the days and divinely in greater awe of the
sunset and the myriad of stars that could be seen seemingly like no other place
on God’s earth! We clearly spotted many constellations and even a shooting star!
We found cable TV hookup, internet access on the first and second floors. There
were televisions with cable TV available in each room upstairs and in the living
area downstairs. We had indeed found our "Ocean Dreams Cottage" in Spanish
Wells. We noted the cottage easily accommodates 11 people.
As the days rolled on we found we were very blessed and fortunate to have Jody
and Tara Pinder as owners and landlords of this lovely Hollywood picturesque
style setting and cottage. They are incredible human beings who have a lovely
family. Jody and Tara are very friendly, gracious, kind and if all of humanity
consisted of human beings such as the two of them we would have no difficulties
in this world. Jody shared a crab and lobster salad which he made himself with
us, brought us boiled stone crabs he had caught himself, we received two
delicious coconut and key lime pies baked fresh by Tara herself. We could not
remember the last time we had been treated like royalty and yet more like
family! We had been truly blessed without a doubt and thanked God for this
wonderful experience.
We were marveled by Jody’s disposition to share the history of Eleuthera,
Spanish Wells, Harbor Island, Governors Island, the Glass Bridge (where the
Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea come together, and the Preacher’s Cave with us.
More than that he offered to take us and made all arrangements for a vehicle,
ferries, golf cart and an unending myriad of marvelous activities. We were
thrilled! We lunched at Tippy’s Restaurant where the food was fresh and
excellent! The view was so overwhelming and we also felt a thrill to be in a
place where actors and performers Mathew Maconehay and Mariah Carey had been a
few weeks earlier while filming a new movie entitled "Fools Gold".
We found the people of Eleuthera to be very friendly and accommodating…even when
a Brazilian leather sandal fell into the ocean--the day was not lost!
The day of our departure came and true to his word, Jody assisted the seven of
us to the ferry dock that would take us back to Nassau. He promised to return to
see us off once he picked up his wife Tara. Low and behold Jody and Tara
returned waving and waving to us and we equally and ecstatically waved back and
cheered them on until we no longer saw the dock. There was silence among the
seven of us and the unspoken feeling that we were leaving behind good friends
and family…perhaps silently hoping we would meet again someday and return to the
"Ocean Dream Cottage"!

Thank you for making our stay at Spanish Wells a very pleasant and unforgetable one. I've personally imagined many times of exactly what "Ocean Dreams Cottage" represents.....peace, tranquility, a place to "get away from it all" and yet still have everything on hand, but most of all a place to sit back and feast your mind, body and soul soaking in GOD's beautiful creations on this universe. I left Spanish Wells with the urge of wanting to visit again and again.
Jody & Tara, Thought you might like some extra photos of your "dream house". We had such a wonderful time there and are already looking forward to next year. One week definitely is not enough! Hope all is well with you and your family. I have told everyone about the wonderful food we were greeted with upon or arrival. It was all so delicious and beautifully displayed too. I wish I had taken pictures. You really spoiled us with your hospitality. We are glad to have made some new friends in Spanish Wells and hope to see you for many years to come. Thanks again for the great, but all too short week at Ocean Dreams. I envy whoever is enjoying it now! Keep in touch, Susanne & Bill Newbraugh
